THE MISSION

Hi, I am Bronx Goodwin, former NRL player and firefighter for NSW Fire Rescue. After completing my first marathon in April, I will be doing another marathon for children in need, in 2027. This isn’t just a run.

I’ll be running solo from regional New South Wales to the coastline, pushing through hundreds of kilometres to raise funds for children suffering serious burn injuries.

Firefighters see firsthand how devastating these injuries can be.

This run is about stepping up and doing something to help.

Before I became a firefighter with Fire and Rescue NSW, I spent over 20 years playing professional NRL.

That chapter of my life taught me discipline, resilience, and how to keep going when things get hard, even when you’re exhausted, even when it hurts, even when no one is watching. Today, I serve as a firefighter, and I see things most people never do.

I’ve been on the front line of devastating fires and emergencies involving children with serious burn injuries. I’ve stood in hospitals and seen what recovery actually looks like, not just physically, but emotionally for the child and their family.

You don’t forget that.

Bush to Beach started as a thought I couldn’t shake:
If I can push my body for sport… if I can push myself in my job every day… then I can push myself to do something that actually helps these kids in a real way.

So I’m running from bush to beach across New South Wales.

Hundreds of kilometres. Solo. No shortcuts.

Not for recognition.
Not for a finish line.

But for the kids and families doing it far tougher than I ever will, this run is my way of stepping up for them.

WHAT “BEAT THE BURN” REALLY DOES

The Beat the Burn initiative is driven by Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters to support kids treated at the Burns Unit at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

Funds raised go directly toward:

  • Life-saving equipment

  • Specialist treatment and care

  • Research improving recovery outcomes

  • Support for children and families during long hospital stays

Over the years, this initiative has raised millions of dollars to improve care and outcomes for young burn victims across NSW.

WHY THIS MATTERS

A burn injury can happen in seconds.

But recovery can take months… even years.

For many kids:

  • Hospital stays replace childhood moments

  • Pain and rehabilitation become daily life

  • Families face long, difficult journeys

Your support helps change that.

THE CHALLENGE

  • Solo endurance run

  • Multi-day effort across NSW

  • Hundreds of kilometres

  • Physical and mental limits pushed daily

This isn’t a team event.

It’s one person taking it on, to support kids doing it far tougher.
